Hi Cathy

The old one I have in the cupboard was from Pharmaceutical Compounding on Diana Drive, North Shore. Dr Leila Masson must have written a script for it. $59 for 100 caps.

Can't say what exactly it did as we were doing a lot with that boy then but I think his anxiety/tantrums began to lessen - he had just turned 3 years old.

Thanks for the reply. I have had Klaire Labs p-5-p some time ago and it really didn't seem to work like my regular supply at the time which was Solgar ( expensive!) I think it is Chinese so I was hesitent to get it again. My asd son and myself in particular live off p-5-p!
I usually get mine from my practitioner which is the best price I can find but she is away right now so I got some from PCNZ instead.

Hi there,

Can anyone explain what p-5-p does? What is it suppose to help with... I've not heard too much about it.

Thanks,
Hollie

Hey Hollie

P5P is the active form of Vitamin B6. It's often beneficial to take in this form as well as B6 as many kids are unable to convert B6 to its active form on their own.

It was one of the first vitamins ever used in the treatment of autism by Dr Bernard Rimland. The following info is from Dr Bocks book Healing New Childhood Epidemics.

It's therapeutic effects are:

-Improves metabolism of methionine which is an important factor in methylation
-It can provide relief from seizures, especially if the cause of these is from an excess of glutamtae or a deficiency of GABA
-Assists if there is a deficiency of the decarboxylase enzyme (signalled by poor eating, sleep disturbance, developmental delays, poor muscle tone, rolling of the eyes)
-Also helps with carpel tunnel syndrome

When you take B6 or P5P you need to ensure a few things

-Dr Bock recommends taking B6 and P5P with an 80:20 ratio
-Give with food to avoid stomach upset
-Maintain good zinc levels - zinc helps metabolise B6
-Have good levels of amino acids - digestive enzymes are good as they help break protein down into amino acids
-Should be taken with Magnesium to have a synergistic effect
